Witnessing Gezi

TURKEY / 'Witnessing Gezi' was created with the recordings of photojournalist Emin Özmen's witnessing of the environmentalist protest that was launched to prevent trees from being chopped in Taksim Gezi Park which turned into a resistance movement that influenced a great deal of the country. Witnessing Gezi also aims to share the humanistic side of this civil resistance movement by recording it with photojournalistic responsibility which aims to remain neutral to the events occurred.

Witnessing Gezi documentary project was also awarded by World Press Photo 2014 Multimedia contest with first prize in Long feature category http://www.worldpressphoto.org/collection/multimedia/2014/long-feature/witnessing-gezi

Soma Disaster

TURKEY / In May 13, 2014 after a fire many miners got trapped in a coal mine belonging to Soma Holding in Manisa's Soma district. Official sources say that 301 workers lost their lives.

Koray Çolak was one of the miners tragically killed by a fire that claimed the lives of 301 miners on 14^th of May, 2014 in Soma, Turkey

May Day

TURKEY / With the decision taken by the governor of Istanbul almost all roads and neighborhoods leading to the Taksim Square we barricaded and kept closed to the protesters and everyone that wanted to get to Taksim. Since the early morning hours protesters and police forces clashed in neighborhoods as Beşiktaş, Şişli, Okmeydanı, Zincirlikuyu and Levent, tear gas and water cannons were used to push back the protesters. Hard clashes happened in Abbasağa Park in Beşiktaş, The Syndicate building and it's surroundings in Şişli, Zincirlikuyu-Levent subway station and in Okmeydani neighborhood. The governor of Istanbul during a statement said that during the May 1st celebrations 90 persons were hospitalized after getting injoured. 142 persons got arrested during the events.URKE

Gezi Park 1. Anniversary

TURKEY / Protesters trying to reach Taksim Square and Gezi Park were prevented by the police on the anniversary of Gezi Park protests. Protesters, aiming to arrive Taksim from Gazi District, Okmeydani, Besiktas and Istiklal street, clashed with the police. Police intervention and arrests continued throughout the day.
